Properties:
Plasmin, a protein found in serum, works by increasing the intracellular release of arachidonic acid, a prostanoid precursor, and also by increasing levels of melanocyte-stimulating hormone-a. Both arachidonic acid and melanocyte-stimulating hormone activate melanin synthesis by melanocytes. Thus, it seems that the anti-plasmin activity of tranexamic acid may play a role in its effectiveness in the treatment of melasma.
